Hello, everyone!

 

Welcome back to another year of English lessons with Sam! If you’re new here, I would like to give you a very warm welcome and I hope you enjoy yourself and maybe learn a little bit of English along the way too. I also look forward to meeting our youngest students who will be joining us in June!

サムとの英語レッスンへようこそ! ここに初めて来た方には、とても温かく歓迎したいと思います。楽しんで、その過程で少し英語も学んでいただければ幸いです。 6月に入学する最年少の生徒たちに会えることを楽しみにしています。

 

Since April, we have covered a variety of topics. I generally try to pick topics that either have some connection to the time of year (e.g., if we were coming into summer, I would do a lesson on beach safety) or just sounds useful/fun!

4月からさまざまな話題を取り上げてきました。 私は通常、季節に関連するトピック (たとえば、夏が近づいている場合は、ビーチの安全についてのレッスンを行うと思います)、または単に役立つ/楽しそうなトピックを選ぶようにしています。

 

So far things have been going well and it is nice to see everyone again.

The first lesson was a liiiiitle rowdy, but that is to be expected with the first lesson as everyone is super excited. Things have settled down now however and I am very happy with how everyone is going.

これまでのところ物事は順調に進んでおり、またみんなに会えるのが嬉しいです。

最初のレッスンはかなり乱暴なものでしたが、最初のレッスンでは誰もがとても興奮しているので、それは予想されることでした。 しかし、今では事態は落ち着いており、皆が順調に進んでいることにとても満足しています。

 

Below are the topics we have covered so far and some activities we did!

以下は、これまでに取り上げたトピックと私たちが行った活動の一部です。

 

 

Sea Creatures

Our first lesson back! To begin we had a quick talk about Golden Week and what everyone got up to during that time. I had some photographs from my vacation time and shows the kids what I had been doing. For anyone interested, I went to Kyoto for a few days and visited the zoo and the train museum!

最初のレッスンが帰ってきました！ まずは、ゴールデンウイークについて、そしてその期間中にみんなが何をしていたかについて簡単に話しました。 私は休暇中の写真を何枚か持っていたので、子供たちに私が何をしていたかを見せました。 興味のある方のために、数日間京都に行って動物園と鉄道博物館に行ってきました！

 

We then talked about the lesson’s topic, which was sea creatures and life in the ocean. W learned a few new words and played a game called “Shark Attack”! This a game where students had to “feed the sharks” by throwing a ball into each of the shark’s mouths (shark shaped cups that I had prepared earlier).

それから私たちは、海の生き物と海の生き物についてのレッスンのテーマについて話し合いました。 Wさんは新しい単語をいくつか覚えて、「シャークアタック」というゲームをしました！ これは、生徒たちがサメの口（私が事前に用意したサメの形のカップ）にボールを投げて「サメに餌をやる」ゲームです。

 

Animals

For this lesson, we looked at different types of animals (as you probably guessed already) including barn animals and zoo animals. We focused on a few different songs that were very high energy and by the end of it I was exhausted! So, to give me a time to catch my breath, we sat down and read through a big book of real sized animals (one of my son’s favorites).

After that we were straight back into the action and ended on a gamed called “stuck in the mud”, were students would have to race to opposite ends of the class while avoiding “Sam-Teacher: the angry gorilla”. If anyone was unfortunate enough to get caught, they would join me in helping to tag the other kids!

このレッスンでは、(すでにご想像のとおり)納屋の動物や動物園の動物など、さまざまな種類の動物を調べました。 私たちは非常にエネルギーの高いいくつかの曲に集中しましたが、終わる頃には疲れ果てていました。 そこで、息を整える時間を与えるために、私たちは座って、実物大の動物が載っている分厚い本（息子のお気に入りの 1 冊）を読みました。

その後、私たちはすぐに活動に戻り、生徒たちが「サム先生：怒っているゴリラ」を避けながらクラスの反対側の端まで競争しなければならない「泥沼にはまり込み」と呼ばれるゲームで終わりました。 不幸にして捕まった人がいたら、私と一緒に他の子供たちにタグを付けるのを手伝ってくれるでしょう。

 

Time:

This topic I feel is often overlooked and I think it is important to review from time to time as it something that always pops up in conversation and it’s always good to practice our counting skills.

時間：

このトピックは見落とされがちだと感じますが、会話の中で必ず出てくるものなので、時々見直すことが重要だと思います。また、数を数えるスキルを練習するのは常に良いことです。

 

So here, we looked at numbers 1 through 10 (we will cover 11 and 12 in the future) and the two main times of day: nighttime and daytime.

After getting through learning the vocabulary, we played a game called “what’s the time Mr. Wolf”. This game is great fun and involves the kids having to bravely approach me (Mr. Wolf – I’m sensing a pattern here) using the time as the number of steps they have to take (for example: 1 o’clock = 1 step).

そこで、ここでは、1 から 10 までの数字 (11 と 12 については将来説明します) と、夜間と昼間という 2 つの主要な時間帯について調べました。

単語の学習を終えた後は、「What’s the time Mr. Wolf」というゲームをしました。 このゲームはとても楽しいもので、時間を歩数として使用して、子供たちが勇敢に私 (ウルフさん – ここで時計のパターンを理解して) に近づかなければなりません (例: 1 時 = 1 歩、2時＝2歩 ）。

 

Safe and Dangerous

To start this lesson off, we did a short conversation review/presentation where I invited the other teachers to the front of class to answer my questions: “What is your name and how are you?”. A simple conversation that simply aims to encourage students to not be afraid to use English!

このレッスンを始めるために、私たちは短い会話の復習/プレゼンテーションを行い、他の教師をクラスの前に招待して、「あなたの名前は何ですか、お元気ですか?」という私の質問に答えてもらいました。 生徒に英語を使うことを恐れないように促すことを目的とした簡単な会話です。

After that we got into our main topic where we looked at safe things versus dangerous things and trying to distinguish one from the other.

We later played a game called “Don’t fall!” where students would use the flashcards as stepping stones and tried to make it to the end of the course. While doing so, I would be asking whether the flashcards were either safe or dangerous.

This was fun but I think for the future I need to figure out a way to not have the flashcards slipping and sliding all over the place to avoid any accidents!

その後、私たちは本題に入り、安全なものと危険なものを検討し、一方を他方から区別しようとしました。

その後、「落ちないで！」というゲームをしました。 そこでは生徒たちはフラッシュカードを踏み台として使用し、コースの最後まで到達しようとしました。 そうしながら、私はフラッシュカードが安全か危険かを尋ねていました。

楽しかったですが、将来的にはフラッシュカードが滑ったり、あちこちに滑り落ちたりして事故が起きないようにする方法を考え出す必要があると思います。
